POTOMAC, MD — What began as a routine Back to School Night descended into chaos Tuesday evening after two local Montgomery County, MD mothers allegedly got into a physical altercation over who would serve as the classroom’s “Home Room Helper.”
Witnesses say the dispute began when one mother casually mentioned that she had “already volunteered” for the position.
“I’m pretty sure I emailed the teacher in July,” said one mom, while the other mom reportedly responded, “Interesting, because I have the confirmation email from June.”
Things escalated quickly
According to witnesses, the two women began arguing over who was better qualified to coordinate class parties, organize teacher gifts, and send passive-aggressive reminders to the other parents.
The situation reportedly reached a boiling point when one mother accused the other of “acting like this is some kind of competition.”
The two ended up getting physical and agreeing to one-on-one combat to secure the role of “Home Room Coordinator”. The two moms agreed to “take things outside” and meet at the fenced in school basketball courts to “figure this all out.”
As the other parents stood by, some cheering, some watching in amazement, the two moms ended up fighting UFC style for the top-mom role. Both of the moms taunted each other as they circled the blacktop, neither dad stepping in to break things up.
One of the dads was nonchalant about the whole incident. When asked about the seemingly absurdness of the whole incident, the dad said “I support my wife. I know how much she enjoys volunteering for things that she can then later complain about, especially if it involves the other parents.”
School administrators eventually separated the women once their scuffle got too close to the PTA sign up table.
The Home Room Helper position remains vacant, although both women claimed victory and started their own group chat with the other parents present during the fight.
School officials say the incident is under investigation, although both women have already demanded to chair the investigation.
