MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Montgomery County Restaurant Week is officially underway, giving residents the rare opportunity to enjoy a delicious three-course lunch for just $42.
Plus tax.
And tip.
And a 4% service fee.
And a 3% credit card fee.
And apparently something called a “kitchen appreciation fee.”
“It’s really an incredible value,” said Bethesda resident Mark Reynolds, staring at a $67.84 bill for his $42 lunch. “I actually thought they accidentally brought me someone else’s check.”
Participating restaurants throughout Montgomery County are offering special prix fixe menus designed to encourage residents to try new restaurants, revisit old favorites, and learn firsthand how many different percentages can be added to a single restaurant bill.
One participating restaurant advertised a $42 three-course lunch featuring soup, an entrée, and dessert. Diners could choose steak for an additional $12, substitute fries for $4, add bread for $6, and receive water completely free as long as they were comfortable drinking it directly from the bathroom sink.
County officials praised the event for supporting local restaurants while providing residents with an affordable dining experience.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some of Montgomery County’s best restaurants at a fixed price,” one official said. “The fixed price is $42. What happens after that is between you, the restaurant, and God.”
Restaurant Week continues through the weekend.Residents hoping to participate are encouraged to make reservations early and bring approximately $100 per person.
